We Can Make an Extracurricular Activity Out of Googling Stuff

Real Neat Blog Award

As someone whose penchant for asking random questions not only subjected him to a couple of what-a-weirdo baffled stares in the past but also plunked him into awkward conversations, today’s Tag or Award or whatever is right up my alley. So thank you Wesaun @ Oreo and Books and Tam-Tam @ Thoughts And Afterthoughts who now knows what a horrible person I can be for the Real Neat Blog Award! You can check out their entries here and here, respectively.

And because I feel like info-dumping would bore you out of your mind, I’ll only answer seven questions instead of fourteen. Or maybe because I’m lazy. You decide.

IF YOU COULD HANG OUT WITH 2-3 CHARACTERS FOR A DAY, WHERE WOULD YOU GO (FICTIONAL), WHAT WOULD YOU DO AND WHY WOULD YOU DO IT?
I initially wanted to mash up fandoms for this idyllic one-day getaway but then I thought of Mim (Mosquitoland by David Arnold) and—nope, OF COURSE it has to be Mim, Beck and Walt. This trio is their own adventure. Like, we can make an extracurricular activity out of Googling stuff and we’d have a blast. I’m not even kidding. OR we can go to Le Cirque des Rêves (The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern). Yeah, that would be super awesome.

IF YOU COULD BUILD SOMETHING USING MULTIPLE COPIES OF YOUR FAVORITE BOOK OF 2015, WHAT WOULD YOU BUILD AND WHY?
I’m gonna build my own red iron throne. GO FIGURE.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR?
This is actually more complicated than black and white? Because the easy answer would be a light shade of teal. However, I also like three-shades-darker bean red, milk white and blue dress, especially together. And oh, mustard yellow. By the way, I’m talking HTML colors. Because I’m a nerd.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO THAT IS IN NO WAY RELATED TO THE BOOK WORLD, BOOKS, OR THE COMMUNITY?
I really enjoy going to the cinema alone. In fact, there was a time when I’d go watch a movie every week and that was my me-time. It’s just, there’s something about the alone-ness of it. Like, there’s this entranced moment after the film right? Where you think big thoughts, like maybe you can move to France or open a bake shop or do that one thing you’ve always wanted to do. And you never even do it. It’s just the feeling that you can maybe turn your life into a movie, you know? (Also, I think I’m paraphrasing Ezra Faulkner here.) That—those few minutes after the credits—that’s very special for me, and I want to savor it in silence.

YOU HAVE TO SWAP BLOGS WITH A BLOGGER (INCLUSIVE IS BOOKLR/BOOKTUBE/BOOKSTAGRAM) AND NEED TO OPERATE IT ON THE SAME SCHEDULE (OR NOT) LIKE THE ORIGINAL CONTENT CREATOR FOR A MONTH. WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE? WHY?
Cait of Paper Fury I choose you! Wait, no. Cait is not a Pokémon. But she’s definitely my choice. Just because I feel like running Paper Fury for a month would entail stretching my comfort zone even more. Gosh. I would have to read ten books or thirty seven to keep up.

WRITE A HAIKU WITH BOOK TITLES/AUTHOR NAMES.
Never let me go
Every day, at breaking dawn
Through the looking-glass

IMAGINE YOU HAVE SEVERAL ROWS OF SHELVING FILLED WITH A MULTITUDE OF BOOKS; FROM THOSE YOU OWN TO THOSE ON YOUR TBR—ALL OF WHICH YOU LOGGED ON GOODREADS. BEHIND THE SHELF IS A PANIC ROOM. TO GET INTO THE PANIC ROOM, YOU HAVE TO PULL OUT A BOOK (CAN YOU IMAGINE THE ACTION?). THERE IS AN INTRUDER IN YOUR HOUSE—A MURDERER?—WELL, YOU DON’T WANT TO FIND OUT. THE THING IS, THIS INDIVIDUAL HAS ACCESS TO YOUR GOODREADS ACCOUNT AND CAN SEE EVERY SINGLE TITLE YOU’VE LISTED. YOU’VE ALREADY CALLED THE COPS AND THEY’RE SET TO ARRIVE WITHIN MINUTES SO SAID INDIVIDUAL WON’T HAVE TIME TO PULL EVERY SINGLE BOOK OUT OF THE SHELVES TO GAIN ACCESS. WHICH BOOK DO YOU CHOOSE TO BE YOUR ACCESS CODE. JUSTIFY YOUR SELECTION.
Andrew Smith’s Winger because, DUH, that would be totally so unpredictable. Yeah, no. I don’t see the immediate use of Goodreads in this scenario? But anyway, I’d use Chocolat by Joanne Harris as access code because a) I only know two—and I mean two—people who have read the book, ergo, b) I hadn’t been as vocal about my fondness of it, and so c) it’d be a stretch for the intruder to single this title out. I think its spine is rather unremarkable, to boot.

There you go! If you’ve read Chocolat or know the specific name(s) of your favorite color(s), come talk to me. And also? I’m nominating these luscious waffles:

Cait @ Paper Fury
Eriele @ This Is Not Your Book Blog
Jayvee @ Writer For Misfits
JM @ Book Freak Revelations
Justine @ Bookwormaniac
Kevin @ Tome Bound
Liam @ Liam’s Library

Here are your questions:

  1. If you can only eat one group of food for the rest of your life, what would it be? (Classification can be as broad as “desserts” or as specific as “hamburgers.”)
  2. What is that book you wish you had when you were younger?
  3. Describe your coffee. (Or other favorite drink.)
  4. Which fictional character you’d switch lives with and why?
  5. Which album can you listen to on repeat for one whole day?
  6. In relation to the previous question, select a novel and do its soundtrack.
  7. And lastly, write a poem or haiku or song for either waffle or doughnut.

Books that were mentioned (click the cover to be directed to its Goodreads page):

Mosquitoland   The Night Circus 01   The Beginning of Everything

Never Let Me Go 01   Every Day 01   Breaking Dawn 01

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass 01   Winger 06   Chocolat

  1. 4. Mira. We’re rather similar except the stories in her clothes which ART and rituals to heal her, that would be nice.

    5. OOOOH, that’s a bounce between Ceremonials, Pure Heroine, and How Big How Blue How Beautiful. Ceremonials & HBHBHB are by Florence and The Machine, and Flo’s voice…her music is like dancing through a painting created with nothing but dark emotion. Utterly breathtaking, and I can get lost in the lyrical sound of her voice, and the power of some of her words. Everything fades away listening to her, or dancing to her. I feel…completely myself, and alone in the best possible way. Pure Heroine is another album I can slip away for an eternity into. The way the music is done, combined with her voice, erases everything. I need music that can erase all the wrongs of life, erase the cruelty, erase the pain and injustice right when I need it. That saves me right on time. I need music with a certain sharp beauty I can drown in… So give me your recs!

I have multiple but my absolute favorite is black. The power and emotion it exudes on a canvas attracts me to it, the words it carries when there are no words. Does that make sense?

    1. But do you frequent secondhand shops, too? Or like, collect this assortment of clothes? Also? Wesaun. Uh, I specifically said ONLY ONE? But, yeah. I absolutely agree with Pure Heroine. It’s one of my go-to’s when I want to feel like, f*ck off world. I’m invincible. And like I told you before, I really like Cosmic Love and I think Florence + The Machine has a very distinct, emotionally packed flavor in their music. And the power and emotion of black makes sense.

  2. Thanks for endlessly tagging me, Miel! And this is a little tougher than that More Happy Than Not Tag, but I am still grateful!

  3. My favorite thing to do that isn’t bookish is to write- is that too close to bookishness? If so, I’ll say knitting. I’m not particularly good at it, but I think it’s so relaxing! Great tag! 🙂

    1. Isn’t she just fabulous? And VERY prolific, too. Thanks for dropping by Victoria!

PS. My best friend used to think that about going to the theatre alone. But she tried it once, with some encouragement from me, and she enjoyed it. She’s a girl.

  4. Ahaha, I love your answers. Extra-curricular Googling cracked me up XD and YES, a day (night, really) at the Night Circus would be so fab. Your colours are oddly specific, which is great because it is amusing, but I am also curious as to how blue dress is different from blues not on a dress. Hmm.

    1. OH MY GODS YOU’VE READ THE NIGHT CIRCUS!!! I feel like I can count on my fingers how many people I know read this gem. And Alyssa. YOU HAVE TO SEARCH THE HTML COLOR CODES. I’m just saying.

  5. Thanks for the tag Shelumiel (Lumi) I can always rely on you and Joey!

I hate every time you mention Winger or Mosquitoland or Simon (not that you did in this post) because it makes me feel bad for not reading them, I feel left out of all your feels that you express for them. I love pretty much all shades of blue so yes teal! Oh and I tried to read The Night Circus once but I guess I wasn’t in the mood for it because I got bored. Oh the shame…I will vow to finish that book some day!
I would love to see this red throne. Would it be made out of Simons?
I’ve tried going to the movies myself only once and I quite liked the serenity of it but I felt so self-conscious. Maybe I could give it another go.

P.S That title made me snigger

    1. Oh bless me! That is my sole purpose in life: to make people laugh/snigger/snort/chuckle/andtherest. And I guess I have to apologize for making you feel bad about Winger and Mosquitoland and Simon vs (I sneakingly referenced it!)? But with you feeling bad, what does this tell us? YOU REALLY SHOULD READ THEM, is what it is. (But, really, only pick them up if you want to.) As for TNC, that’s sad because I was entranced from the beginning to the bittersweet end. Having said that, however, I understand where you’re coming from. It takes its time and it’s very poetic. And OH. What did you watch?

  6. OMG I DIED LAUGHING. XDD THIS IS THE BEST POST OF EVER. You would definitely need to read 37 books. *nods* And don’t forget to post every day (okay FINE I don’t post every day, but shhhh, lemme think that I am all-powerful-and-awesome like that) BAHHA. That is an excellent question though…I don’t even know whose blog I would steal. I quite like my own. BUT. I would steal, like, EVERYONE’S EPIC BLOG DESIGNS aND GRAPHICS. ❤

I think in HTML colours too. xD

Also did I tell you I've got Mosquitoland on reserve at my library?!! (As well as Winger of course. XDD) I AM QUITE RIDICULOUSLY EXCITED.
