Top Ten Hyped Books I’ve Never Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish in which book bloggers list their top ten picks for whatever the current prompt is.

Oh my dear Hyped Book. So, okay. I’m fairly certain I don’t have to pull a Sheldon Cooper here—this is, uh, pretentious; I’ve only seen two or three episodes—but in case there are people who missed the hype (yes, I’ve a waffle sense of humor thank you very much*) I’m gonna try to fill you in with a quick analogy: for years, Lady Cupcake and Lady Macaron have been the center of attention in Hypegarden (*winks twice*), until Lady Cronut arrived and, suddenly, everyone wants to wait on her and invite her for sweets and refreshments. Overnight, Lady Cronut’s braid has become everyone’s braid. She, readers, is a hyped lady.

Okay. Whatever.

This week’s prompt could easily exceed a Top 20, that is why I narrowed mine down into books I consider reading eventually. They are arranged by date of publication and, for series, I listed the first title. Also, there’s one here I wish isn’t included but it is.

  4. To your asterisk, you managed to make me smirk at that one. That’s more difficult than you know. And, dude, I don’t know how busy your life is but you need to get on ToG, ADSOM, and RQ PRONTO. Seriously. I hope you get the time to read them soon, because they are SOOOO good. Seriously.

  6. Great list! Harry Potter is so wonderful. I love those books. I enjoyed Cinder and Girl on the Train. I don’t think I’ll ever read The Book Thief. I’ve heard it is great, but I have trouble reading about WWII.

    1. Thank you! Yeah, I actually watched all the HP films and enjoyed them very much. As for Cinder, you know what? I won a hardcover of Scarlet. So I might pick that one sooner, but I’m thinking binge reading HP next month.

      1. I think you need to read Cinder first. Otherwise you may get lost in Scarlet and you’ll get spoilers for Cinder.

  9. I really don’t know where to start with this list, Shelumiel. I’m going to try and convince you like all the other commenters to read Harry Potter! Cinder, Throne of Glass, The Book Thief and Red Queen were all very good also. I’m in the same boat as you for The Girl on the Train and A Darker Shade of Magic, hopefully soon. So…yeah, Harry Potter um bye! 😉

It must be that I read hyped books and am willing to deal with the dislike (if it happens) and you are more cautious. That’s not to say that there aren’t books that have been sitting on my shelves for years unread…

      3. I don’t think it’s because I’m cautious though. I mean, most of these titles came out when I was reading very casually. So there’s that. And of course THERE ARE, viz. Simon vs and More Happy Than Not. 😉

      1. It seems to be. I haven’t had much time to read it so I am only 30 pages in but I am hooked! And the book is way better than the film. I enjoyed the film though, but the narration for the book is on point 🙂

  11. Well excuse you, Cronuts are delicious. Way better than a Cruffin, too.

    If I didn’t know any better, I’d feel like the willingness to read these hyped books increases as you go down this list. But the reason why I said that I could have copied and pasted yours is from the middle row and onward (with the exception of Girl on the Train), they’re all books that have been hyped to me as well.

    While I studied Handmaid’s Tale in school, it was perhaps one of the only books I enjoyed in a scholastic setting (because Catcher in the Rye–ew).

    Any road (see what I did there?), the banners are being waved to call for your head if you don’t read HP. What will you do, Lumi?

    1. Excuse you too, Joe, ’cause I didn’t say Lady Cronut is a “falsely hyped” lady. I’ve had cronuts before and they’re fantastic. And let me be the first to inform you that you didn’t know any better; I’m reading HP next month. But, yeah, d’accord (that’s “agreed” for you kid). The Catcher in the Rye? UGH. Also, boohoo on my school for not giving us any required-reading book(s).

      PS. I didn’t get the “any road.” Does that, by any chance, have to do with Hypegarden?

        Next month sounds so definitive. A bit too definitive.

        The “any road” bit is a comment you leave everywhere as your way of saying “anyways/how”. I’ve never seen it used until you started saying it. Truth.

      2. Aah, someone’s incredibly perceptive. I didn’t realize no one ever really use it that much. (Honestly, no one does in my circle outside internet too.) But, yeah, it was from the halcyon days of obsessing over English films.

  14. Some of my favourite books are on here! Although I totally respect your not having read some books or not wanting to read them. It’s all cool in the blogging community! I was sure you’d read Harry Potter, though, so I’m mighty confused. WHAT IS THIS MADNESS? I was SURE you had. Ah well.
    I have this feeling that I’m probably going to struggle through The Handmaid’s Tale, but by the end it’ll be a firm favourite and one of those life altering books. And yet I still haven’t read it, although I’ve been planning to for years!

    1. Hahaha! But I did watch the films, and I have the first 3 books, so I’ll remedy this next month. And I can totally relate with feeling something will change your life but not finding the inspiration/mood to pick it up. #bookwormproblem
